You won’t believe what this woman can do with tea bags

We all love a cup of tea, but Malaysian artist Red Hong Yi has turned into an art form.

We are sure Irish mammies and daddies everywhere will be shocked by Red’s waste of tea, but we promise the result is worth it.

Hong Yi used 20,000 tea bags to painstakingly create the piece known as the "Teh Tarik Man" for the World Economic Forum in Davos last month.

The process was very intricate in order to achieve the different shades for brown, for example, she had to steep the tea bags in water for varying amounts of time and at different temperatures.

She also added in some food dye in order to achieve darker shades.

In her YouTube description Hong Yi outlined the inspiration for her work.

“I wanted to create a piece that reflected an everyday scene in Malaysia that reminds me of home. Teh Tarik (which means 'pulled-tea' in Malay) is a drink served in local coffeeshops (or kopitiams) that is sweet, frothy and milky, and is frothed up when tea is poured between two containers,” said Red.

“Perhaps more important than the drink itself is the underlying culture. Locals gather in kopitiams and mamaks, and here they talk about where to buy the best durians, the traffic, politics, weather, soccer... It is a drink that brings people together and I hope that I get to share a bit of my country through this piece!”

It is nice to see a nation where tea is as important culturally as it is in Ireland.

On completion, the work weighs in at over 31 stone and stands at nearly 11 feet.

Utterly amazing!!!

Only one question remains - Barry’s or Lyons?
