Cork radio station auctions five Elsa dolls for charity

One Cork radio station has a very special Christmas auction going on at the moment.

96FM's Opinion Line have five of the most sought-after toys this Christmas - the Snow Glow Elsa doll from 'Frozen'. The toys will be given to the five highest bidders with all proceeds going to support Cork Simon homelessness services.

The dolls were donated by listener Aisling Walsh who bought them in Australia. The Elsa toy has been the source of conflict in recent weeks as Irish retailers struggled to meet demand - there have been reports of parents fighting over the increasingly scarce toys.

And the bids have been flooding in.

The Cork Simon Community recently reported that the number of people sleeping rough on Cork City streets has jumped by more than 500% in three years.

Bidding closes at 11.30am on Tuesday, December 23rd. To enter the auction, visit CorkSimon.ie.

UPDATE Dec 23: The auction raised a whopping €4,000 in just over 24 hours.

The winning bids were:

€1000 Geraldine O'Neill in Glanmire - owner of Fitzpatrick's Shop, Glounthaune

€1000 Pat Phelan, CEO of Trustev @patphelan

€700, €650 and €650 for the remaining three dolls, Dan Kiely, CEO of Voxpro @dankielyvoxpro
