Internet sensation Grumpy Cat gets her own movie and it looks absolutely awful

The internet's favourite mascot of everything worthy of disdain and cynicism has just released the trailer for its very own movie: Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.

Ironically, it looks like it won't be very good.

The cantankerous cat, who became wildly famous online for its permanent expression of ill temper - is actually a two-year-old female named Tardar Sauce.

Owned by Arizona native Tabatha Bundensen, Tardar is so famous she's appeared in magazines, and at conventions, and is the mascot a million-dollar corporation selling merchandise.

Now, Grumpy Cat has a voice provided by actress Aubrey Plaza, best known for her roles in Parks and Recreation and Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

Aubrey herself is taking the internet's lack of enthusiasm pretty well, tweeting replies in the persona of her feline counterpart, with observations such as "it will be terrible" and "it's SO TERRIBLE that it's genius."

Reddit, the site that arguably brought Grumpy Cat to internet stardom, was less than impressed with the trailer, with users posting comments including "At least it's not out in cinemas" and "should have figured the fact it was a Lifetime movie is the kiss of death."

From the looks of things, they're not wrong.
