The new action-packed Avengers trailer is full of goodies for superhero fans
Marvel Entertainment dropped the new Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer on the internet last night, and it’s eye-popping, action-packed, and, well, everything you expect from a superhero trailer.
Since the first film made a whopping $1.5 , plenty of you went to see it. Have a look at the sequel’s trailer, and then we’ll delve on into some of the details:
What was that all about?

The main enemy makes his first appearance in this trailer - . In the comic book world, Ultron is an intelligent robot and long-time enemy of the Avengers. He’s been around since the late 1960s, but has never appeared in a big-budget film. In the comics, he was created by Hank Pym - or “Ant-Man” - who is getting his own movie in 2015. But in this version, Iron Man creates the evil robot.

We also get a glimpse of Iron Man’s , a firm fan favourite that comic book readers have been looking for since the first Iron Man film. The armoured titan is designed to fight the Hulk, and we can see the pair, who teamed up in the last film, face off in the trailer, so we can expect that fight to be one of the film's main set pieces. The last time we saw Tony Stark, he hung up the metallic boots (at the end of Iron Man 3), so it’ll be interesting to see how he comes full circle.

Then there’s ( Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and the (Elizabeth Olsen). This duo appeared in the secret ending of Captain America: Winter Soldier, where they were referred to just as “the twins”. Interestingly, though, they already exist in the movie world- in Fox’s Movies’ X-Men series.
Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch are, in the comics, the children of Magneto (played by Ian McKellen in the X-Men movies). They’re incredibly powerful mutants, with Quicksilver’s super-speed being shown off in the recent X-Men: Days of Future Past. (where he was played by Evan Peters).
The Scarlet Witch has always been portrayed as one of the most dangerous and powerful mutants in the Marvel Comics world, since her powers are to bend reality around her and affect the laws of probability.
What’s interesting is that although the X-Men and the Avengers exist in the same comic book world, the movie licences are split up. When Fox began making the X-Men films back in 2000, they took the rights to “mutants” from the comic books. That means whatever version of the characters we get in Age of Ultron are unlikely to make references to X-Men, mutant powers, or their father.
Another thing to watch out for is season two of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD on United States television, which is currently airing. The show mirrored events in the release of Captain America: the Winter Soldier, since they exist in the same universe, so the TV show will need to reflect any changes made to the setting by the films. the screenwriters for the TV show have read the scripts for the upcoming Marvel films, so maybe they’ll drop a few hints here and there.
