Afroman released a new version of 'Because I Got High', 13 years on

Remember the hit single 'Because I Got High' from Afroman? It was a smash hit in 2001, taking the number one spot in the charts and being the over-played song of the year. Of course you remember it.

Afroman - that's Joseph Foreman when he's at home - has now released a "positive remix" of the song. While the original was all about the steady obliteration of his life because he got high, this version is completely re-written to promote cannabis legalisation.

It's a pretty big turnaround for the rapper, when you consider the original song involved him missing his court dates, child support payments, and becoming homeless.

Maybe that's because the new version is a collaboration between the artist and Weedmaps, a medical marijuana dispensary, and NORML, an activist group, and highlights the benefits of legalisation to both the user and the state (in the form of taxation and reduced crime).
