Elderly ladies marry after 72 years together

Last Saturday, the pair were finally married in front of family and friends at the First Christian Church in Davenport, Iowa.

Rev. Linda Hunsaker told the couple that “this is a celebration of something that should have happened a very long time ago”. Iowa legalised same-sex marriage in 2009.

According to the Quad City Times, over the years, the couple have travelled all 50 states, all the Canadian provinces and been to England twice.

“We’ve had a good time,” said Alice while Vivian reportedly said that it takes a lot of love and work to keep a relationship going for 72 years.

One of the guests was Jerry Yeast, 73, who has known Alice and Vivian since he gardened for them back when he was 18.

"I’ve known these two women all my life, and I can tell you, they are special,” Yeast said.

“This is a very special day for all of us.”
