Rare electric-blue lobster caught off the Maine coast

A Maine fisherman and his daughter made a one-in-two-million catch last Saturday when they caught a bright blue lobster.

Jay LaPlante and his 14-year-old daughter Meghan were hauling traps off Scarborough when they the rare electric-blue crustacean.

According to the Lobster Institute (yes, it's a real thing), the colour comes from a genetic defect that leads to an excess of a particular protein.

And "Skyler" is not destined for a pot of boiling water. Meghan is donating him to the Maine State Aquarium where he probably won't feel quite as special - they already have three blue lobsters and an orange one.

We'll just leave this here.
