You're lookin' well, Monaghan: drone footage from St Macartan's Cathedral

Web developer and all-around internet man Darren McCarra took a drone over Monaghan's St Macartan's Cathedral, and it's very, very pretty.

We've already seen impressive footage from Cork, but it's great to see the open fields of a smaller town like this.

Wait for two minutes in, when Darren does a super-smooth 360 spin around the weathercock, taking a look at all of Monaghan town.

It should be noted that you can't just grab a drone and send it zipping over your hometown, though. With camera equipment attached, some of these airborne vehicles can weigh up to 10 or 12 kg. That's a lot of weight to drop out of the sky if something goes wrong.

Written permission from the Irish Aviation Authority is required to operate an Unmanned Aerial System - which is what they call a drone.

But the most important thing here is: today we learned there's a tiny tree growing out of the top of St Macartan's Cathedral.
