'Sunday Game' panel helps best man with epic wedding speech

Westmeath man James Boyle delivered a cracker of a best man's speech at the wedding of his brother Lar recently - with some help from Michael Lyster, Pat Spillane and Colm O'Rourke of The Sunday Game.

James pulled out all the stops as Lar married his sweetheart Jean Collantine, digging up some choice pictures of his brother as a young fella before springing his surprise - a personalised 'analysis' from the three RTÉ stalwarts written especially for hurling fanatic Lar (a man known for 'causing a bit of a stir around the mart').

Here's the speech as it was delivered by James in the Bloomfield Hotel in Mullingar on Saturday last (the action with Michael and the lads starts from 4:40 in).

(We like the bit where Michael and Colm crack up at Spillane's 'forget about the blanket defence' line - an obvious crack at Joe Brolly).

"It's about going for it," says Spillane.

"It's about having your goals, having your objectives (and) believing the glass is half full."

Michael also squeezed in a crack about Lar's job as a tyre fitter.

"Now Jean is a prison guard," he says.

"And I know Lar probably should be in prison for some of the dodgy tyres he sells."

(That one got a great laugh in the Bloomfield Hotel, not least from Lar himself)

And here's the 'Saturday Game' bit in full - fair play to Michael, Pat and Colm for being such great sports, and thanks to James for sending us the clip!

A standing ovation for James Boyle at the end of that speech, and deservedly so.

So now that both the RTÉ soccer and GAA panels have been roped in to help out with best man speeches, it's only a matter of time before the rugby lads are called uponl.

Step forward Tom McGurk, Conor O’Shea, George Hook and Brent Pope - the best men of your country need you!
