This bear cub actually got his head stuck in a cookie jar

This little bear cub had a bit of a traumatic day after getting his head stuck inside a cookie jar.

The 28-pound cub was rummaging through some rubbish in Ringwood, New Jersey when he tried to eat some animal crackers left at the bottom of the plastic container. Unfortunately, the jar then became stuck on the little guy's head.

"He was trying to eat what remained in the jar and pulled the jar over his head," said Larry Ragonese, a spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

A passer-by tried to help after seeing that he was in distress but the cub panicked and ran up a nearby tree.

Now the poor bear was stuck 40 feet up a tree with a cookie jar on his head - not a great situation.

The Department of Environmental Protection was called and, after putting netting around the tree in case he fell, a biologist was able to tranquilise the frightened cub - who is only around six months old - before taking him down. Firefighters then carefully cut the container off his head.

Of course, the poor bear is now going to have to deal with endless comparisons to another greedy bear. As Ragonese wisecracked:

"Winnie had the honey jar, but this bear had a cracker jar.”

Good one, Larry.
