'Vikings' actor admits €124k drugs charges

A marketing manager turned actor has received a five-year suspended sentence for possessing cannabis and tablets worth €124,000 in Dublin.

Anthony Seery - who appeared in the television programme 'Vikings' - agreed to hold the drugs after a friend suggested it might help pay off his €28,000 gambling debts and mortgage arrears.

The 35-year-old of Seaview Avenue in East Wall pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis resin, cannabis herb and chlorophyll huperzine at his home and at a garage where he used to work on November 22, 2011.

The father-of-two, who had no previous convictions, took full responsibility for the drugs.

Judge Patrick McCartan told him: "I will give you a chance - because I think you will take it".

He suspended the sentence for five years and ordered that Seery not abuse drugs in the future.
