Runaway D-Day veteran receives 'overwhelming' 2500 birthday cards
Remember that 90-year-old World War II veteran that ran away from his care home so he could attend the D-Day celebrations in Normandy on June 6th? Course you do.
Bernard Jordan made headlines when he showed up in France for the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings after going missing from his care home in Sussex.
It's safe to say his adventure made quite the impression - today is his birthday and he's received over 2,500 birthday cards from well-wishers across the world.

Bernard told The Independent that he was overwhelmed by the support and well-wishes.
"I just can't believe it. I want to thank everyone who sent me a card or a gift. Sadly I can't thank everyone in person so I hope they get this message.
"I'm just one man and I'm nothing special. Anyone would think I'd defeated Hitler on my own," said Mr.Jordan.
"There were a lot of other people on the beaches of Normandy that day, this lovely attention is for them really, not me.

Bernard plans to have a low-key birthday party today with his wife, Irene, and his family and friends. A 1940s singing group - who Bernie met on the ferry back from France - will be performing at the care home for the celebration.
