Facebook employee pays €15,000 to be killed off in Game of Thrones

What an honour.

Facebook employee pays €15,000 to be killed off in Game of Thrones

It's an accepted fact that if you're a Game of Thrones fan (series or book), you live in constant fear that your favourite character join the scores of characters that the author George R. R. Martin has killed off.

And now two lucky people will have the honour of being killed off themselves - in print of course.

Martin gave away the grisly opportunity as part of a charity auction to benefit the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary. There were only two spots available for this prize and both have been snapped up.

Dave Goldblatt, who works for Facebook in San Francisco, made a donation of around €15,000 ($20,000) to claim the coveted prize and will now be written into one of the author's upcoming books in the series - only to then be killed off.

While Dave can pick the characters station in the world - from peasant to lord, how he will die will be left up to Martin. And knowing ol' George, it won't be pretty.

Goldblatt told ABC News that he doesn't know if George will change his name to something more fitting for Westeros - he's just excited for the opportunity.

"I’m just lucky enough to be in a position to do this. Obviously, the money is going to charity, so it’s an added bonus."

Given that Martin is notoriously slow at writing the books, Dave is likely going to have to wait YEARS before he finds out his fate.
