Last Friday was the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and, as the commemeration ceremonies were beginning in France, a 92-year-old British World War II veteran was being swindled out of his medals by a man who "spoke with an Irish accent".

The veteran had served with the Grenadier Guards in Italy and North Africa and also received medals for his work as a fireman. Two World War I medals that belonged to his father were also taken.
