Quick-thinking bus driver saves barefoot little boy wandering next to busy road
Bus Driver Bill Clark lost no time when he saw little James, dressed only in a T-shirt and nappy, wandering alone close to a busy intersection.
Two-year-old James had wandered out of the apartment he shares with his parents in Oregon while his father slept. His mother had already left for work.
His father had worked the late shift the night before, and accidentally fell asleep while watching James. The little boy let himself out, and headed straight for a busy road.
Quick-thinking Bill Clark was driving his bus past the spot just then, and saw James. He immediately pulled over, approached James and looked around to see whether any adult would claim the little boy. No one was around (it was 8.15am last Friday morning), so Bill led James into the bus.

Videos shared by bus company TriMet show the drama unfold, and news stations also picked up the story.
Little James, though not appearing to be scared, wasn’t saying much, except that he didn’t know where he lived.
Bill drove James to the local bus station to await police and social services. James’ dad had reported him missing by then, and the two were reunited.
In the meantime, Bill had cheered James up by offering him a hot chocolate and a biscuit.
“He goes: ‘Chocolate!!’...That’s when I knew he liked chocolate,” said Bill.
Rejecting a ‘hero’ tag, Bill said: “I would hope that anybody would do the same thing….My job that day was saving a little boy.”
