Heartwarming short aims to help raise money for orphan charity
This great little film is called 'Anya', and it's about a Russian orphan. If you like it, you might consider a small donation to an Irish charity that helps children like her. Simples.
ANYA is a unique online initiative to support Irish charity, To Russia With Love, according to makers Brown Bag Films.
"The idea was simple; we make an engaging piece of animation, one that ideally packs an emotional punch," said writer and director Damien O'Connor.
"It’s ‘visual busking’ in a way. We’re all used to charity singles and calendars, so we applied the same approach to a full five-minute computer animated film instead."
Founded by Debbie Deegan, To Russia with Love is a registered Irish charity dedicated to creating a better future for Russia’s forgotten orphans.
It works primarily in the Hortolova Orphanage in Bryansk, western Russia, where it is developing a Centre of Excellence using a model of best practice which it hopes can be extended to other facilities in the country.
"It is our belief that every child deserves a real childhood and a bright future," a spokesperson said.
"Unfortunately many of the children who end up in the Russian orphanage system face enormous obstacles as a result of neglect, abandonment or abuse."
"If people are charmed or moved by it (Anya), they show their appreciation by sending a donation directly to To Russia With Love," said O'Connor
"Unlike an advert, people are more likely to share a film online with friends or family, which of course helps spread the word about the charity."
