Ryan to narrate 'How I Met Your Mother' spinoff

Hollywood star Meg Ryan has signed up to provide the voice of the protagonist in the new 'How I Met Your Mother' spinoff.

The A-list actress narrates the CBS series 'How I Met Your Dad', which has already filmed a pilot and could be commissioned for a full series to air later this year.

Like the original, 'How I Met Your Dad' will feature lead character Sally - played by Greta Gerwig - telling her children the story of how she met their father.

In the original series, Bob Saget provided the narration as the older Ted Mosby, who was portrayed by Josh Radnor.

Like Bob, Meg is not expected to be seen in the new show, reports Deadline, but her voice will punctuate the beginning and end of each episode.

'How I Met Your Dad' will centre on Sally, a restless New Yorker who decides to separate from her husband after less than a year together.

With her close-knit group of friends and family around her, Sally embarks on a journey to find her true love - the eponymous father figure.

'How I Met Your Mother' ended last month after nine seasons on air.
