We've all been there, trying to explain the partition of Ireland and our complex relationship with Britain to clueless friends from abroad.

Luckily, now we have this handy video guide we can use.

Made by John Ruddy, otherwise known as RudTheSpud, it was commissioned by the Institute of Irish Studies in Queens University Belfast, as an extended version of his video The History of Ireland in 6 Minutes.

It's a great run-through of the complicated history we have, and apart from explaining things to the clueless, it's a handy refresher for the rest of us who might not have brushed up on things since school history classes.
