Jean Claude Van Damme was supposed to be Predator, looked like a lobster

Did you know one of Jean Claude Van Damme's first jobs when he arrived in America was as the Predator in Arnold Schwarzzenger's action classic?

And he hated every second of it.

See, according to this great interview with the character designers, the Muscles from Brussels thought he was going to show off his martial arts skills and have hand-to-hand combat with Arnie.

No-one told him he was going to wear a giant red costume that looked like a mutant lobster.

"'ow am I supposed to do ze most epic of splits in zis?" he thought.

The ridiculous-looking red suit, of course, is part of the Predator's cloaking device effect - it's bright red so it can be made invisible against the green jungle in special effects.

This great behind-the-scenes film from the Stan Winston School of Character Arts, a group dedicated to teaching the monster-making skills that go into our favourite movies, from Terminator robots to Jurrasic Park dinosaurs.
