Rare Irish Nirvana poster for day of Cobain's death up for grabs

Nirvana fan? Collector? Cash to spare?

This might be for you.

It's 20 years since Kurt Cobain died by suicide - and Nirvana were scheduled to play in the RDS, Dublin, the very day he was found dead - April 8, 1994.

Now, one of the posters for that day - one of only 12 printed - is up for sale.

Nirvana famously played a small gig in Cork as a support act to Sonic Youth in 1991 - which every music fan in the city of a certain age claims to have been at - and a handful of other gigs, but their 1994 gig in the RDS, which this poster was printed for, was cancelled in advance when Cobain fell ill in Rome.

The history behind the poster, detailed on the ad, is pretty interesting. According to the seller, Athenry Antiques:

This Poster originally hung in the RDS, advertising the gig, one of only 12.

All 12 posters were given away as prizes on The Beat Box on RTE2 on a Sunday morning a few months later.

The show was presented by Ian Dempsey. Our client was the 12th name read out, winning the final poster.

It has been in storage ever since.
