VIDEO: Diners soaked after giant wave crashes through window of restaurant

That's one way to have your breakfast ruined.

Diners at the venerable Moby Dick restaurant in Santa Barbara, California got more than they bargained for over the weekend after a giant wave smashed through the windows of the eaterie, soaking everyone inside.

Diner Michael Quaranta shot the below footage of the moment it happened.

"Nothing quite wakes you up like a giant wave crashing through a window right next to your face," Michael wrote on Facebook.

"The eggs benedict was delicious, don't get me wrong, but could have done without the glass shards flying at my face and being drenched with 10 gallons of cold ocean water."

The incident happened on Saturday at the popular restaurant on Steams Wharf in the town.

A second YouTube video posted by Forest Buchanan shows it from another angle - the first YouTuber Michael is visible in this clip, standing up in the background as the wave comes through.

"The swell increased with every wave that passed," Buchanan told the Santa Barbara Independent.

"The dining room was filled with the sound of glass shattering and people screaming as a wave of water rushed over the dining room carpet."

Nobody was injured in the incident according to Mr Buchana, who added that he wasn't charged for the breakfast.

"Moby Dick would like to thank you all for the phone calls and messages regarding the well being of patrons and employees," the restaurant said in a Facebook post, adding that it was due to reopen this morning.
