VIDEO: Happy lot in Galway, aren't you?

The people of Galway flip a bird at the recent storms, floods (and recession too) and do a little dancin' in the street.

VIDEO: Happy lot in Galway, aren't you?

Kamil Krolak's one-man mission to present Galway in a fun, happy way turned into a vast event with about 700 dancing Galwegians and 40 hours of editing.

The result? A joyous romp around the city's streets, to the tune of Pharrell Williams' Happy tune from Despicable Me 2.

"It started out as an idea I promoted on facebook," filmmaker Kamil told breakingnews.ie.

"I thought it would just be me with a phone and speaker going around the streets of Galway asking people to join in and dance, but hundreds of people phoned me to get involved."

Kamil ended up with three separate crews cordinating different events over the five-hour shoot.

"We wanted to start at noon to catch as many people on the streets as possible, and to finish before dark - that's why we set five hours as the target to get everything shot," he said.

The 4 mins 50 secs below is the edited package after the full-throttle shoot and a breakneck 40 hours editing. It features members of dance schools, lots of local businesses and scores of the good people of Galway.

Kamil is used to getting Galwegians to take part in his films. In the vox pop film below, he asks passers-by when they feel at their most Irish.

"Sitting in the kitchen having a cup of tea". We can relate.
