Off Their Rockers (TV3, 8pm)

Proving that age really is nothing but a number, ‘Off Their Rockers’ is a hidden camera series that sees senior citizens turn the tables on unsuspecting members of the public with a host of funny and unexpected pranks.

A band of fearless seniors roam the streets causing mayhem with their irreverent behaviour, brazenly funny sketches and saucy pranks.

Featuring an ensemble cast of gregarious golden oldies, ranging from 67 to 84 years old, the Rockers are determined to have a blast as they grow old disgracefully in this feel good new series.

In this episode, a pensioner decides to audition for ‘Britain's Got Talent’, while another learns what it means to be on Twitter.

COMEDY/DOCUMENTARY: Peter Kay: Live & Back on Nights! Part One (Channel 4, 9pm)

His TV appearances may be disappointingly thin on the ground these days, but Peter Kay remains a popular comedian – in fact, his last tour was so successful that it earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

But it’s not just a matter of turning up, telling a few jokes and then going home again, oh no.

The first in a two-part documentary looks at all the work that goes into playing 140 shows for a staggering 1.2 million people over the course of 18 months.

The tour spent a biblically impressive 40 nights at Manchester Arena without overstaying its welcome.

As well as getting an insight into what goes on backstage, we’ll also be reminded of why so many comedy fans shelled out to see Kay in the first place, thanks to some brand-new stand-up material.

FILM: District 9 (More4, 9pm)

A giant spaceship hovers over 1980s Johannesburg.

On board, the military discover thousands of malnourished aliens, who are granted refugee status on Earth and segregated in the eponymous containment facility, away from an increasingly xenophobic human population.

This is an edge-of-seat thriller seamlessly combines live action with digital effects to evoke a startlingly original vision of a future in which humans and aliens live side by side, albeit unharmoniously.

It’s one of those you-don’t-have-to-be-a-sci-fi-fan movies, such is the depth and sharpness of the narrative.

The project was born from the ashes of ‘Halo’, an aborted big-screen epic based on the hit game series that Neill Blomkamp was due to direct.

COMEDY: Alan Davies: Apres Ski (BBC Two, 10pm)

Given the phenomenal success of Channel 4’s ‘The Last Leg’, you’d have forgiven the BBC for perhaps to emulate some of that support – and sure enough, they have commissioned QI’s resident foil Alan Davies to front this programme recapping the action from the Winter Olympics.

And with the promise of a host of famous faces from the worlds of comedy, entertainment and sport all queuing up to offer their views on the latest news from Sochi, they could be on to something.

As always when Davies is on screen (unless he’s solving crimes as ‘Jonathan Creek’), we can expect irreverence galore, as he and his guests attempt to identify exactly what it is that makes the Games so special.

Tonight, they’ve got the memory of a spectacular opening celebration fresh in their minds, which should give them more than a few humourous talking points!

NEW ON NETFLIX: Ruthless People

In this fiendishly funny comedy from the creators of ‘Airplane!’, loathesome millionaire Sam Stone (Danny DeVito) is ruthless. How ruthless? When his shrill wife Barbara (Bette Midler) is nabbed by inept kidnappers (Judge Reinhold, Helen Slater), Sam cries tears of joy ... and refuses to pay the ransom.

And when the abductors threaten to kill the abrasive heiress, Sam takes immediate action - he celebrates!

DeVito never disappoints, so if you’ve had a bad week, looking for an undemanding laugh and don’t mind reliving the 80s, this is a great choice.
