Hoffman's friend claims actor was 'clean and sober' before death

Philip Seymour Hoffman was "clean and sober" in the weeks before his death.

The 46-year-old actor was found dead of an apparent drugs overdose in his New York apartment yesterday and despite previously battling addiction, his friend David Bar Katz - who called emergency services to the actor - insists he was back to his "old self".
