Somerset police seek suspects over stolen submarine

Either these guys are new super-villains bent on taking over the world, or somebody's having a larf (hint: they're not super-villains).

Somerset police seek suspects over stolen submarine

It seems that An Garda Síochána aren't the only police force to show a sense of humour on Twitter.

Avon and Somerset Police prompted a few digital double-takes over the weekend with the below tweet, seeking two suspects in connection with a missing submarine.

But wait, how did two people steal a bloody submarine? It's not like you can just stick it under your jacket and waltz out of the submarine shop…

Oh, wait.

It was a toy submarine.

"Can you help us identify two people who might have information about the theft of a Playmobil submarine in Wells?" said a police statement explaining the cheeky tweet.

"The theft occurred at 10am on Tuesday January 14 at the Toymaster shop on Queens Street," the statement continued.

"The woman opened the door and as they went outside the man stopped, picked up a Playmobil submarine and left.

"They were then seen to walk to the bus station and catch a bus to Shepton Mallet," police added, describing a modus operandi not typical of your average bond villain.

As of this morning we have no updates on whether the crime of the century has been solved, but the boy or girl in blue behind the Twitter account was still showing a healthy appetite for banter.

Lolz, etc.
