More than 40 million votes give 1D MTV accolade

One Direction have been named MTV's Stars of 2013.

The boyband received more than 40 million votes from around the world to secure the award, narrowly beating Justin Bieber.

Ke$ha, 30 Seconds to Mars, The Wanted, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Rihanna and Little Mix all make up the Top 10.
