Departing ‘X Factor’ judge Gary Barlow has admitted he might return to the singing show after failing to get an act in this weekend’s final.
The three remaining acts – Sam Bailey, Nicholas McDonald and Luke Friend – are mentored by Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh and Barlow said he was looking forward to a “relaxing weekend”.
His last act, Rough Copy, were voted off last week and Barlow said: “I’m very disappointed they went. They were so close, but I’ve got a very relaxing weekend - you might even see my feet on the desk.
“I’m disappointed. There’s a reason to come back in the future. Maybe, maybe, not next year. It’s been nice. I’ve had three beautiful years on the show, really enjoyed it, met some friends for life, but it’s time to go. I’m going to miss everyone especially Mrs O and Nicole and even Louis.”
Both Barlow and fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger have tipped Leicestershire prison officer Sam Bailey to win and the former Pussycat Doll said she was excited about sharing the stage with her for her duet.
Scherzinger, who said her outfits would be “sassy but classy”, added: “I’m sad that none of my girls are in the finals but I can’t wait to perform with Sam. It’s going to be a diva hoe-down up there, it’s going to be a lot of fun. Last year I had two acts in the final, now Louis knows what it feels like.”
The bookmakers have made Bailey the runaway favourite to win this year with William Hill offering odds of 1/4 putting her ahead of McDonald at 4/1 with Friend a 10/1 outsider.
The firm’s spokesman Rupert Adams said: “Sam is a shocking result for us and should she win we will be paying out a six figure sum.”
Bailey said her time on the show had transformed her life in more ways than one.
She told ITV’s Daybreak: “Throughout this competition I’ve never weighed myself, I weighed myself today for the first time and I’ve lost over two stone since the first one and when I look back at how I was before, I’m just so happy with the way I look now and my willpower is just growing so much and I just want to get fit.”
