Pixies confirmed for Cork and Dublin dates

Pixies will play Cork and Dublin as part of their summer tour next year, it was announced today.

The alternative rock legends will support Arcade Fire at Marley Park on Sunday, June 29 and headline at Live at the Marquee Cork the next day.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am.

The Boston-formed Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential band of the late 80s alt/rock movement.

Their five studio releases and initial six years together blazed the path for groups like Nirvana, Radiohead and Pearl Jam to rise to superstardom.

Pixies disbanded in 1993 and launched their first reunion tour in April, 2004 when virtually every date sold out within minutes and fans travelled hundreds of miles to attend a show.

Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made it clear that her place in the band would always be there for her.

Paz Lenchatin will play bass on this tour, replacing Kim Deal's first replacement, Kim Shattuck.

"We are really looking forward to playing with her on these dates," said Lovering.

"Working with different bass players is very new for the band, but we're having a great time doing it."
