What is this centenarian practicing for?

You would think when you reach the age of 101 you would start to slow down, but Alexander Kaptarenko is gearing up for a very special day.

Alexander has been preparing to carry the Olympic torch, through his hometown of Novosibirsk, by holding up a frozen salmon he feels has the same type of base as the torch.

Born in 1912 Kaptarenko has seen his country change dramatically in his lifetime, he has seen a revolution, three wars and survived the siege of Leningrad (Saint Petersburg).

Alexander is not only a fish-torch-bearer, he is a talented writer with several children’s books to his name and is even working on another one.

He is one of the few bright spots for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games which has seen a worldwide outcry over Russia’s tough line on the LGBT community.
