Incredible footage of US tornado as it rips through home over family's head

Following on from last week's series of tornadoes in the American Midwest, incredible video footage has emerged of a man whose house was destroyed while he hid in his basement.

The video begins with some incredible footage of the oncoming tornado, headed directly for the camera, before the operator says "holy moly… I gotta go."

The camera then goes dark for a few seconds as he joins his daughter for shelter, but the audio continues so you can hear the reactions and terrified screams.

The pair then emerge into an aftermath where a wall has been torn entirely from the side of their house.

"Oh Jesus … I'm in shock … the neighbours' houses are gone!" he can be heard saying. "I hope nobody's hurt."

Despite the fear involved, this man needs to be applauded for the way he handled things, taking care of his family and trying to help his neighbours.
