Dolphin 'superpod' enthralls ferry passengers in Canada

What do you call a group of over 1,000 dolphins? A superpod #notajoke.

Dolphin 'superpod' enthralls ferry passengers in Canada

This is pretty special.

A 'superpod' of over 1,000 dolphins swims alongside a ferry in the Strait of Georgia, which separates Vancouver Island in Canada from the mainland coast of British Columbia.

Luckily, somebody had a camera phone handy.

Also - the burritos are ready.

Dolphins are social animals, living in pods of up to a dozen individuals. In places with a high abundance of food, pods can merge temporarily, forming a superpod.

The ones in this clip are Pacific white-sided dolphins, according to reports.

"Though this species of dolphin is known for forming large pods, it's unusual that such a large pod was spotted in the Strait of Georgia, rather than in more open waters," CBC News British Columbia reported.

Here's another superpod, this time in California, shot in January of this year by a whale-watching boat.

Nice.
