French students steal a llama and go on tour

In what sounds like a sub-plot to an American high school movie, five French students have escaped serious trouble after stealing a llama from a circus and taking him on a city tour.

Serge the llama was resting peacefully in his stall for the night when the teenagers - who had, perhaps, had a glass of wine or two at the nightclub they had been at – broke into a nearby circus to say hello to the animals, and bring one on an adventure.

Speaking to television news, the crowd said they had tried to steal a zebra, but he was too boisterous, so they took Serge the llama instead.

Naturally, they took him on public transport on the tram.

The inspectors were naturally rather unhappy, and removed the animal from the tram, tying him up nearby until he could be retrieved.

The Guardian reports that the teenagers will escape prosecution after the circus owner saw a boost in visitors keen to meet the celebrity llama - the escapade has gone viral in France in recent days.

And, most importantly, Serge is doing just fine, and didn't suffer from his night out at all.
