Could you finish this breakfast in half an hour?

There's no such thing as a free lunch - but there's a pub in Athlone offering this monster plate of fodder on the house if you can polish it off in 30 minutes.

Could you finish this breakfast in half an hour?

MANY ARE CALLED… FEW ARE CHOSEN

We're big fans of Man Vs Food here at breakingnews.ie (no, honestly) - and we're stoked to find out that there's a similarly supersized challenge up and running here in Ireland.

It's been going since August but has come to our attention after being posted to Reddit - but Murphy's Law bar in Athlone are offering punters the below plate of monster breakfast fodder for FREE - if they can finish it in half an hour.

Murphy's Law manager PJ Kelly said the breakfast challenge has been phenomenally popular since being introduced - but only one man has managed to conquer it.

"It was a local lad from just down the the road here who did it in 22 minutes," PJ told breakingnews.ie.

"He was on the back of a serious fitness buzz and was after losing six or seven stone - so he was well up for it."

According to PJ, at least 10 or 12 people a day are tempted to give it a go.

"It's very popular during the week when the students are around… you'd have groups of them coming in to give it a lash together.

"Other days you'd have lads coming in that have gotten the train down from Dublin or Galway or wherever after they've heard about it.

"You'd see them coming in with their bottles of water and you know they're here for the breakfast."

The rules are simple - punters have just 30 minutes to clear the plate and their friends can't help.

We count:

- Four slices of brown bread

- Four rashers

- Four sausages

- Four (big) cuts of black pudding, four of white

- Four fried eggs

- Four grilled tomato halves - that's two tomatoes, maths fans

- Four hash browns

- A small swimming pool of beans

- At least half a bag of chips

- A hape of fried mushrooms

- And finally - that snakey little biscuit by the tea

Pass the challenge and the breakfast is gratis - while the successful muncher will also get the honour of a free t-shirt and their mug on the pub's Wall of Fame (aka Facebook gallery)

If you fail the challenge, as hundreds have done - you've to shell out €13.95 for the brekkie, and even worse - endure the shame of having your picture posted in the Hall of Shame.

Our favourite comment from the Reddit thread: "I think I'd need a bigger pot of tea."

According to PJ, the Athlone breakfast is set to go global next month when professional eating machine Randy Santel - the spiritual successor to Man Vs Food's Adam Richman - arrives in town to take up the gauntlet.

Could we do it? We're getting the meat sweats just thinking about it, but we'd give it a damn good lash.

(Hint: If you're going to attempt it, we recommend having a game plan)
