Limerick school to change date of Holy Communion as it clashes with One D concert

A school in Co. Limerick is reportedly looking at changing the date for its First Holy Communion, because it clashes with a One Direction concert.

The Gaelscoil in Raheen is to ballot parents after they objected to a provisional date for the sacrament.

It is after a number of families had already bought tickets for the gig at Dublin's Croke Park on May 24th.

Update at 12.00am

Raheen's Parish Priest said that it is a matter for the local Gaelscoil if it wants to change the date of next year's Holy Communion - to accommodate the One Direction concert.

Father Michael Noonan said once the alternate date did not clash with any other schools' Communions, it was up to them to decide.

A number of parents raised concerns about the provisional date of May 24 next - because it clashes with one of the boyband's tour dates.

The outcome of a ballot among parents has not been made public.

Fans at the One D premiere

Meanwhile Paddy Power have today started taking bets on the ballot.

The bookie makes it 1/3 for the Holy Communion to go ahead on its original date while it is 2/1 for the sacrament’s date to be changed as a result of the ballot to accommodate those with tickets to see One D.
