Dick Van Dyke's car burst into flames on the motorway

Veteran actor Dick Van Dyke has survived a car fire, apparently unscathed, on a Los Angeles motorway.

A spokesman for the California Highway Patrol has confirmed the 87-year-old performer's car burst into flames.

Some off-duty nurses stopped to offer assistance, and firefighters arrived quickly on the scene.

A six-second video clip posted on Twitter by his wife, Arlene, shows the charred vehicle - and a brief glimpse of the actor - who appears unharmed.
