Quiche-loving fiends cause terror in the UK

Some hungry burglars in the north of England went to the trouble of causing a five-hour siege in a café there, all for the sake of some quiche.

You see, the two lads broke into the Café@Marshalls eatery in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, yesterday for a midnight snack, but got more than they bargained for as the police turned up.

The starving duo then grabbed a couple of knives and started to threaten the officers which sparked a major stand-off between the forces of law, resplendent in riot gear, and the quiche thieves.

Angela Marshall, who runs the cafe with her husband, said: "It was like something you see on the telly.

"Apparently they were hungry and wanted some quiche. There was a little bit of money in the till, but I think they just wanted food and then it got out of hand."

Angela said there were about 15 police cars outside the business when she arrived after being called out around one o'clock that morning.

The police were eventually able to coax them out and arrest them on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
