Pat Kenny's memorable moments at RTÉ

The news that Pat Kenny is leaving RTÉ - where he's spent 40 years - to jump to Newstalk has left the nation (well, journalists and media people on Twitter) aghast.

Leaving his weekday radio show also means he'll leave behind his television work, including PrimeTime. It may be a while until we see him grace our screens again: so why not look back on some of the gems he's given RTÉ over the years?

Here are some of Pat's most memorable moments.

1. A TROPHY HOUSE LIKE YOURS, PAT

One thing about Pat was he didn't take nonsense from anyone. Especially not his guests.

2. ASKING A CHILD IF HE'D WEAR BLACK MAKEUP TO BREAKDANCE

Over the course of a 40-year broadcasting career, you're bound to make a few faux-pas.

3. BEING CHEERED BY THE ENTIRE LEINSTER SQUAD TO LIFT THE HEINEKEN CUP

4. RESPONDING TO HIS CRITICS ON LIVE RADIO LIKE A BOSS

The only thing that could have made this better would have been giving out the man's number.

5. YOUR PONTIFICATING AND YOUR MORALISING ON PRIMETIME

6. LOSER SIGNED

As a matter of fact, Pat had to put up with a lot of this kind of nonsense. Comes with being one of the biggest media personalities in the country, we guess.

7. TEARING UP TOY SHOW TICKETS LIVE ON AIR

You don't want this prize? FINE THEN.

8. HIS LONG-RUNNING 'RIVALRY' WITH DUSTIN THE TURKEY

9. CHILLING OUT WITH JERRY SEINFELD

Best buddies, these two. Stick with it until two minutes when Pat presents Seinfeld - who, for example, earned more than $200m in 1998 - with a plastic Superman doll. Classic Irish TV.

10. YOU'RE A CENSOR, YOU'RE INSUFFERABLE

A true classic gentleman's response to being called an "arsehole" on live TV? "Thank you". Then moving on unfazed.

11. THAT AWESOME THEME SONG

The worst thing that could happen as a result of this departure is if the amazing guitar solo that starts Pat's show every morning at 10am disappears.

Also, for some reason, this clip concludes with another little gaffe.
