Ted Mosby's kids have had enough

And you thought your dad's stories were long.

It's a long-running joke among fans of the show - the story of how Ted Mosby met his wife in "How I Met Your Mother" has been going for eight years.

Now that the show is headed for its final season, its creators decided to have a bit of fun with the in-joke that it's been a long time since the kids were sat down for the start of the story.

It's like a string of jokes fans make among themselves. (Contains beeped language).

This premiered at Comic-Con in front of a live audience, and is it just us, or is the space they left for the audience laughter really, really weird?

Apparently, they realised the kids were going to be all grown up before they finished the show, so they filmed their reactions years ago. After all, it's been a long time since the kids asked: "is this going to take a while?"

The answer was yes.
