The future of iconic rock act Pixies is in doubt today after it was revealed that bassist Kim Deal is to leave the band.
"We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies," read a statement on the band's
official Facebook page.
"We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years.
"Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her.
"We wish her all the best - Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering."
Over the years, Deal has had a fractious relationship with lead singer and chief songwriter Black Francis.
The pair patched up their relationship to reform in 2004, playing sell-out shows across the world.
In 2011, he claimed that Deal was refusing to record a new album with the band.
"While I may have tried to convince her otherwise, maybe she’s got a point," he said. "She doesn’t need a new Pixies record, so maybe there doesn’t need to be one."
Deal has also enjoyed success as lead singer of The Breeders, who she formed with identical twin sister Kelley.
