The 12th of June will go down in history for many reasons.

Firstly, on this day in 1987, then US President Ronald Reagan made a famous address amid the dying embers of the Cold War.

Standing in front of the Brandenburg Gate in what was a divided Berlin, Mr Reagan had a stirring message for then Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

"Mr Gorbachev, open this gate.

"Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall."
