Former 'Off The Ball' team announce return to (online) airwaves

Now going by the name 'Second Captains', the lads have signed on to do a weekly podcast with the Irish Times.

So the mystery of where 'the artists formerly known as the Off The Ball 5' will end up has been resolved.

The five - Eoin McDevitt, Ken Early, Ciaran Murphy, Simon Hick and Mark Horgan - have announced a new weekly podcast in association with the Irish Times, under the moniker Second Captains.

The show will be broadcast every Tuesday on the Irish Times website.

"We’re delighted to be teaming up with The Irish Times,” McDevitt was quoted as saying.

“Our gardening leave ended a couple of days ago and being in the constant company of four other men has become extremely tiresome."

The announcement ends the speculation as to the future of the popular team after their shock departure from Newstalk in March.

But the question remains as to whether a one-hour weekly podcast can reach the heights (or the audience) attained by their previous incarnation.
