Galway locals save dog from drowning
All's well that ends well in this dog's tale…
Onlookers at the Claddagh Basin in Galway city were prompted into action yesterday evening when a dog was trapped in the water, with firefighters also pitching into to help.

With the high concrete walls of the basin preventing the animal from getting back onto dry land, people in the vicinity formed an ad-hoc rescue committee to save him from drowning.
Firefighters from the station just across the water also joined in.
Local photographer Steve Maye was on hand to capture the moment the hound was pulled to safety.
"I live across the road from here and that dog takes itself for a walk along the same route every day," Steve told us.
"I saw him walk across the road and not even five minutes later I noticed the fire brigade with some in bouyancy gear sprinting across the bridge to help the guys who were trying to rescue it with a life ring!"
However, the dog didn’t stick around to lavish its saviours with gratitude.
"After they got it out, it stepped a few metres away, shook itself off and casually strolled towards town."
Steve also pointed out the fact that the dog was a 'Lassie'-type collie.
"It's a bit ironic that the boys would be saving Lassie from the well this time!"
