Tulisa is set to sign a new £500,000 'X Factor' deal.
The 24-year-old singer is said to have met producer Richard Holloway last week to discuss a return to the panel alongside Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh and rumoured newcomer Sharon Osbourne after Nicole Scherzinger reportedly quit the TV talent show.
But Tulisa - whose debut album 'The Female Boss' limped into the UK top 40 album chart last year - has been warned she will have to "change her ways" following a recent Twitter outburst directed at her footballer boyfriend Danny Simpson's ex-girlfriend, in which she referred to her as a "lying skank".
An insider told the Daily Star newspaper: "This could be Tulisa's chance to get back in from the showbiz wilderness. Her album didn't do very well and she was facing the prospect of no major TV work.
"Nicole is first choice but it looks like she is now out of the running, so Tulisa has a chance.
"But she will have to change her ways, we can't have all the Twitter nonsense."
Tulisa - who won the show with Little Mix in 2011 - was thought to have been axed from the programme to make way for Sharon, who has reportedly been offered a huge £2m (€2.4m) contract to return as a judge.
Sharon was a panellist on the show from 2004 to 2007, and should she accept the latest offer she will become the highest-paid 'X Factor' judge in history.
Nicole was recently said to be struggling to decide whether or not to sign up for 'X Factor' again or focus on her music career.
She told a friend: "I'm so torn right now. My heart wants me to come back and do the show as I had such a great time last year.
"But my album is coming out and I also need to focus on that.
"I don't think I can make it work. By trying to juggle the two, one or both will suffer."
An 'X Factor' spokesman explained: "No formal decisions have been made on the panel for this year's 'X Factor'."
