Google thinks we love spuds - but hate gingers?

When people take to Google to find out about Irish people, you’d be surprised what the most common questions are…

Google Suggest has been autocompleting our internet searches since 2008, and it’s thrown up some strange and sometimes offensive results.

It’s all quite democratic though, as they are based on search activity by Google users.

If there’s one thing we love more than a drinking and sport, it’s eating potatoes, apparently.

Homer Simpson realised this early on when he needed to get backstage at a U2 concert.

The first result these searches often throw up are pages like Yahoo Answers – and the replies can often be as ridiculous as the questions themselves.

One contributor even suggested that we are “trying to make up for the potato famine”.

“A lot the Irish, or Irish-American WOMEN I have met have less skin around their eyebrows,” says one contributor on Yahoo Answers.

But let's leave looks aside, what are we like as people? Well, results are mixed…

One Yahoo Answer has the solution to banish this “rude” perception forever though, and has helpfully identified the man responsible.

“A star example is Louis Walsh on the X Factor,” says paintedtearz “He is so rude and insulting,unlike Simon Cowell who at least is polite even if he is very direct.”

What about the things we’re not so crazy about?

This gets stranger the further down you go. You have to sympathise with gingers if they aren’t feeling the love here of all places.
