$500 gobbled up by a Golden Retriever? No problem, the US Treasury Department will refund you. See how…

My dog ate my money but it’s OK, the government will reimburse me

A dog-owner whose 12-year-old golden retriever ate five $100 bills hopes to be reimbursed by the US government.

Wayne Klinkel said that his dog Sundance ate them in his car while he was in a restaurant with his wife.

”Sundance is notorious for eating anything and everything, so right away I knew what happened,” Klinkel told local newspaper Helena Independent Record.

He had actually left $501, but the dollar bill was left intact. Quite clearly, his dog has expensive taste.

Desperate to, eh, retrieve his cash, Klinkel picked through the dog’s droppings, washed the remnants of the bills, taped them together and sent them to the Treasury Department asking for a refund.

The US government sends a cheque back to the sender if more than half of the bill is sent to them – though the process can take up to two years in some cases.
