Saldana in line for green-skinned humanoid role in superhero flick

Zoe Saldana is reportedly in talks to star in superhero film 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.

The 34-year-old actress is set to portray green-skinned humanoid Gamora in Marvel's latest comic book blockbuster.

Gamora's back story is that she is the last of her race, the Badoon, and is trained to be an assassin by villain Thanos before eventually turning against him.

If Saldana signs up for the film, which is set in space, she will join Chris Pratt, who is playing Star-Lord, and former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista, who will portray Drax the Destroyer.

Rumours are rife the character Thanos could be the main villain in 'The Avengers 2' which could mean Saldana and the other cast members could cross over in the Marvel universe.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' will be directed by James Gunn and shooting is due to start in June.

The film is tentatively being pencilled in for a August 2014 release date.

Saldana can next be seen in 'Star Trek Into Darkness', which opens in May.
