Hackers have apparently disrupted North Korea’s government-run Twitter account as tensions rise amid threats of nuclear strikes.

The North’s Uriminzokkiri’s Twitter account today displayed four tweets saying “hacked”.

Another tweet said “Tango Down”.

It was followed by a link to Uriminzokkiri’s Flickr page, which also appears to have been hacked, displaying the 'Tango Down' image above, as well as others.

Both sites were running today but carrying content that differed sharply from content typically posted by the regime in Pyongyang, mostly consisting of pictures of party meetings and Kim Jong Un pointing at things.

Viewers now assume the accounts had been hacked by a well-known group calling themselves 'Anonymous'.

At least there's some love for North Korea on the internet.

North Korea opened its Uriminzokkiri Twitter account in 2010 to use the social media to praise its system and leaders.

Our Government's social media sites may want to avoid blowing their own trumpet for a while.
