Beeb sees twitter accounts hacked

On the day of Twitter's 7th birthday, supporters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have hacked three popular BBC Twitter accounts and posted some bizarre messages.

@BBCarabicOnline, @bbcradioulster and the popular @BBCWeather were all targeted by a group calling themselves the ‘Syrian Electronic Army’.

Here are some of the stranger posts by the group this afternoon.

The messages remain on a few of the pages and the group have been praised by fellow hackers ‘Anonymous Operations’.

BBC Radio Ulster has apologised for the hack and removed the tweets following the takeover of their page.

One does wonder however why they attacked accounts that barely have 125,000 followers in total when the BBC Newsaccount has more than 1.4m followers.
