Fake fingers fraud

Medics in Brazil have been fingered by police in what can only be deemed a bizarre use of digital technology.

A Brazilian doctor was caught using fake fingers to pretend that her fellow workers were clocking in to their overnight shifts at a hospital in Sao Paulo.

Two of the fake fingers.

They were made of silicone and imprinted with real finger prints to defraud the biometric punch-in clock at the Ferraz Vasconcelos Hospital.

Thauane Nunes Ferreira confessed to police after she was arrested that she was using different fake fingers bearing the prints of 11 fellow doctors and 20 nurses to pretend they were showing up to work five overnight shifts each month instead of just one.

She was getting 2,400 dollars (€1,800) a month from the staff for the service.

Ferreira, who could get two to six years in prison, has pointed the finger of suspicion at a colleague.
