Ronan O’Gara – Ireland’s king of cool
He may have already played his last game for Ireland, but today we pay tribute to the man who always kept his cool - even a meeting with the Queen couldn’t faze him.
Whether kicking last-minute penalties for Ireland or leading Munster to Heineken Cups, O’Gara was always the man to get you out of a tricky situation.
The Corkman has a lighter side too of course, although he might want to avoid the pop-star route for his next career move.
We’ll always remember his exploits on the field however, such as this time when he weighed in with all of Ireland’s 18 points as they beat Australia at Lansdowne road in 2002.
Check out his brilliant cross-field pass to Shane Horgan as Ireland beat the ’ould enemy England in 2007.
He’ll go down in Irish sporting history for securing the Grand Slam with this high-pressure drop goal against Wales in 2009.
“It’s a proud day to be Irish,” said Ronan after Ireland’s memorable victory against Australia in the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
He’s still going strong for Munster – he breaks Northampton hearts here with the last kick of the game in 2011:
